TADALAFIL – ORAL (ta-DAL-a-fil) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Cialis
Tadalafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or both conditions at the same time.
Take tadalafil exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. It may be taken as needed for erectile dysfunction or once daily depending on your treatment plan. For erectile dysfunction (as needed): Take at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. Its effects may last up to 36 hours. Do not take more than one dose per day. For daily use (ED or BPH): Take at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not take extra doses if using the daily regimen. For pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH): Take as directed by your specialist, typically twice daily. Swallow tablets whole. Do not split or crush unless instructed. Do not use tadalafil with certain medications such as nitrates or recreational “poppers” due to the risk of a serious drop in blood pressure.
Headache, flushing, stomach upset, nasal stuffiness, diarrhea and dizziness might occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Unlikely but report promptly: painful or other urination problems, vision problems, skin rash. Very unlikely but report promptly: chest pain, fainting, foot or ankle swelling. If you experience a painful or prolonged erection (lasting longer than 4 hours), stop using this drug and seek immediate medical attention. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Before using tadalafil, tell your provider if you have: Heart problems (recent heart attack, arrhythmias, heart failure) Stroke history Very low or uncontrolled high blood pressure Liver or kidney disease Vision disorders, especially retinitis pigmentosa Deformed penis or conditions increasing risk of priapism Stomach ulcers or bleeding disorders Avoid heavy alcohol use, which may increase side effects. This medication should be used cautiously in men who are advised to avoid sexual activity due to cardiovascular risk.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medications you take. Do not use tadalafil with: Nitrates (nitroglycerin, isosorbide) Recreational nitrites (“poppers”) Riociguat These combinations can cause a life-threatening drop in blood pressure. Use caution with: Alpha-blockers Blood pressure medications Certain antifungals (ketoconazole) Some antibiotics (clarithromycin) HIV protease inhibitors Other ED drugs (sildenafil, vardenafil) Alcohol may increase the risk of dizziness or fainting. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without your provider's approval.
This medication does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Lifestyle factors such as stress reduction, exercise, sleep, and limiting alcohol may enhance effectiveness. Do not share this medication with others.
Store at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
